Cotton growers have a responsibility to their natural environment, workers and the communities in which they operate and they take those responsibilities very seriously.

The Best Management Practices (BMP) program is the Australian cotton industry’s commitment to the world’s best practice in cotton production. It is a voluntary farm management system that provides self assessment mechanisms, practical tools and auditing processes to ensure that cotton is produced with best practice across a range of focus areas:

  • Land and Water
  • Soil health
  • Biodiversity
  • Climate change and energy
  • Bio-security
  • Chemical and IPM
  • Human Resources
  • Technology

BMP is implemented by individual growers and groups of growers, with support from Cotton Australia staff and the industry’s Cotton Extension Team. There are also water use efficiency officers and other personnel available to help.

Cotton growers wanting more information or assistance in implementing the Best Management Practices Program on farm should contact their nearest Cotton Australia office.
