Cotton Australia General Manager Michael Murray this week met with federal Water Minister Keith Pitt in Brisbane.

The meeting was a positive one, with Minister Pitt and Mr Murray discussing, among other topics:

  • A general cotton industry update
  • The Murray-Darling Basin Plan
  • Floodplain harvesting
  • Compliance and metering
  • Socio-economic contribution of the cotton industry

The Minister was pleased that NSW has now delivered all 20 Water Resource Plans to the MDBA for accreditation.

Cotton Australia also took the opportunity to raise with the minister the future of the 450GL ‘upwater’, and the possibility of a multi-billion-dollar complementary measures program to drive real environmental outcomes.

Minister Pitt is keen to tour the Northern Basin, and Cotton Australia offered to assist with the development of an itinerary.
